It's been almost 10 years since Whitey was captured and just when you thought you've heard all the stories about him, another one comes out. For those of you who don't know, Nilan was married to Bulger's then step-daughter, Karen Stanley from 1981-2006. At the time Bulger was dating Karen's mother, Teresa. What a vision. You hear stories about how dads will try and intimidate their daughter's boyfriends when they first meet them, but I can't even imagine what it must have been like for Chris when Whitey called him back into that house. Remember, this was when Whitey was still very active in Boston. Everyone knew who he was, everyone knew his reputation, and yet no one including the FBI and Boston PD could do anything about it.
Funny story, I used to to date someone who's dad was a gigantic asshole. He would make me feel wildly uncomfortable every time I was at the house but I think that's just because he didn't like the fact that his son was gay. I put up with it at the time, but looking back it was super fucked up. Then again it could've been worse- he could've pulled a gun on me. Oh well. Life goes on.
